Health Care

Residents in Cornwall have access to a wide range of healthcare services. This section provides information on how to access medical care and meet healthcare professionals.

Paying for Health Care

In Ontario, most health care services are paid for by the Government of Ontario.  The government pays for a wide range of services; however, it does not pay for services that are not medically necessary, such as cosmetic surgery.

Emergency Care

In an emergency, you should go to the Emergency Department at the Cornwall Community Hospital or call 9-1-1.

Finding Health Care Professionals

Cornwall is home to a modern full service hospital with state-of-the art equipment and hundreds of healthcare professionals. The hospital is supported by more than 80 physicians and 25 dentists who maintain a practice in the City. You are never far from the assistance you need.

Eastern Ontario Health Unit

The Eastern Ontario Health Unit (EOHU) is committed to providing useful and easily accessible information about your health. It provides a number of programs available for the community including smoking prevention, healthy nutrition, immunization, Heart Health, and a pre-school speech and language program. Most of their public health programs are free.

Cornwall Community Hospital

In addition to the Emergency Department, the Cornwall Community Hospital (CCH) provides short-term treatment for a severe injury or episode of illness, and can also perform surgeries and examinations to diagnose illnesses.

You need an Ontario health card to have access to the Cornwall Community Hospital’s services. The CCH cannot share your health information with anyone.

Some services are provided by the hospital at no charge. However, you may need a referral from a doctor in order for the hospital to perform the test or procedure you need. You can get a referral from a family doctor, nurse practitioner or the Emergency Department at the hospital.

The Cornwall Community Hospital is located at 840 McConnell Avenue and can be reached at (613) 938-4240. For more information, please click on the following link:
